RIP Gordon Lightfoot

We are heartbroken by the passing of Gordon Lightfoot, a true Canadian music legend who has left an indelible mark on the industry. As a singer-songwriter, his contributions to the world of music are immeasurable and have touched the hearts of millions around the world.

A message from Insight Productions CEO, John Brunton:

“1980 I was able to secure funding from the CBC and other sources to do a 3 part documentary on the history of Canadian Rock n Roll called Heart of Gold.  It was a huge break at the beginning of my career.  I reached out to all of Canada’s biggest stars in the business at that time, and no one even returned my phone calls.  Then, to my surprise, one day, I finally got a call back from Gordon Lightfoot who promptly invited me to meet with him at his house that evening.  He happily agreed to participate in Heart of Gold and once Gordon had agreed, Anne Murray, Paul Anka, Joni Mitchell, Burton Cummings and a long list of incredible Canadian stars agreed to participate.  Heart of Gold kick started my career and I have Gordonto thank for that, he changed my life and I will always be grateful.  Gordon and I had the great opportunity to work together countless times over the next 40 years most recently on his documentary Gordon Lightfoot: If You Could Read My Mind.  I’ll truly miss this wonderful man who has made Canada so proud around the world. Many thanks my good friend. Love John”

As we mourn the loss of a true Canadian music icon, we are grateful for the indelible mark he has left on the world of music and his contribution to Canadian culture. Rest in peace, Gordon Lightfoot
